This weekend I got first ascent on a route in Ibex and named it "Desert Dreams." I haven't been climbing much since last Fall and it felt great to get back on the rock, especially leading the same grade I was leading the end of last season. I love how quickly all unnecessary elements fade away while climbing. Even the trek to the desert strips life down to the essentials. At night walking around under a full sky of stars I recognized how clearly I am in the Purification stage of achieving clarity.
Purification is the white hot fire of transformation where everything that is not needed in this moment is burned away. Once "the dust settles" and the clouds are gone you can see clearly - what is before you, what is around you, what is in you and where to go. Our lives easily get cluttered with things and information. Taking some time unplugged is a good way to come back home. Often it takes more than unplugging, it takes a deep spring cleaning (or fall or winter whenever it happens) to clear out the junk.
